NEW YORK DOLLS, POISON AND MOTLEY CRUE
NEW YORK DOLLS, POISON AND MOTLEY CRUE
It was like taking a step back in time; the 80’s that is!
August 11th, 2011. Ridgefield Washington at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
Unfortunately I missed the New York Dolls due to bumper to bumper traffic; however, Motley Crue made up for it. Walking in through the gates was like stepping into a time machine and traveling back in time, with the spandex, big hair, and yes, even some mullet haircuts and wigs. Thousands of screaming fans from stadium seating to a packed standing room only lawn area for a microscopic view of the stage. Poison came on the stage and the crowd roared and sang along with several songs from the OPEN UP AND SAY AHH album to many other recognizable songs. Bret Michaels seemed a bit under the weather and stated to the crowd though getting over the flu, nothing was going to hold him back from performing this show. Poison exited the stage and after a brief lapse in time everything went dark. The stage dimly lit up with multi colored lights, and billows of clouds of smoke appeared along with the band. Two jumbo screens strategically placed on either side of the stage, where concert goers could text and see it on the big screens; to Tommy Lee’s 360 degree drum roller coaster which he invited one lucky fan to join him in the extra seat. Motley Crue who was the headlining act stole the show with fireworks, flames, beautiful dancers and a band that hasn’t seemed to age a bit, despite the short comings this band has faced. From Nikki Sixx’s brush with death, Vince Neil and the loss of his daughter, Mick Mars with bone disease and Tommy Lee and his issues with the law. These guys have managed not to only pull it together, but they sound better than ever and what a show! From seeing the Crue back in the 80’s to now it was 100% improvement. Vince Neil made the right choice with taking voice lessons, they really payed off. Vince Neil hit high notes that I’ve only heard opera singers hit. It just goes to prove that you do get better with time! If you want to hear all of your favorites starting with the Too Fast For Love, Dr. Feelgood, Girls Girls Girls and more; you will have to get yourself a ticket, and let me tell you that it was well worth the price.
