Deftones

DEFTONES AT THE ROSELAND THEATRE JUNE 29, 2007
Deftones headed to the stage about 9:45 P.M. In full force they wasted no time getting the crowd going with “Beware”! Chino- Lead vocals dressed comfortably in surf length jean shorts, t-shirt and tennis shoes. The guitarist and bass guitarist looking slightly uncomfortable from the heat, wearing blue jeans, t-shirt and tennis shoes. The drummer so snug back in his dark corner of the stage that you could barely see him or what he was wearing. It was by their second song “Rats” that a mosh pit had started forming; soon it became full circle and some of the audience that did not want to participate in the “mosh” headed off to the side of the theatre.
By the time the Deftones were half way through their set, the crowd surfers bodies started making their way towards the stage. The mosh pit was getting larger with each song. The more Chino (lead vocals) interacted with the audience, the more the crowd would cheer and the faster the mosh pit grew. The bodies continues to surf the crowd while the Deftones fed off the energy of the crowd. Chino would hold out his microphone to various songs throughout the show, and the crowd would shreik out the lyrics. The guys were giving the Roseland quite a show and the crowd certainly showed they appreciated it. The set ended with “Passenger”. The lights went out and the crowd grew restless, they were ready for more; But, would there be an encore? Fans made their way to the front of the stage in a sea of sweat, just in case. After an unusually long pause those whom remained were rewarded with an encore of some of the Deftones greatest hits. The Deftones hit the staage once again and tore into “Back to school”. It only took a matter of seconds for another pit to form as the band transitioned into “Change” as the bodies started passing over heads toward the front of the stage once again. The Deftones then played what seemed to be a crowd favorite “7 say it ain’t so words” as the crowd went wild.
They ended the show with “Headup”. This was my first-ever Deftones show and it certainly won’t be my last! The energy on stage and interaction with the crowd definitely made me a fan and I look forward to seeing them again!
