BLACK WATER RISING LEAVES SXSW FESTIVAL A WINNER

Last weekend at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, TX, New York
rockers BLACK WATER RISING won the High Times Doobie Award for “Best
Rock/Alternative Artist,” beating out such tough competition as Staind,
Eagles of Death Metal, The Mars Volta, Danko Jones, and Warrior Soul. The
award was presented to the band by Doug Pinnick of King’s X.

BWR drummer Mike Meselsohn commented on the band’s victory: “It was an honor
to be nominated, and we are psyched to have won, especially considering the
other bands we were up against. We’d like to thank High Times Magazine and
Bobby Black for the recognition and opportunity to win such a prestigious
award. Plus, we had a blast playing the show!”

Vocalist Rob Traynor also commented on the award: “We’re thrilled to have
won, and the trophy has been getting a lot of use since we’ve received it.”

upcoming self-titled debut, which streets April 7. The band recently
